April Pond calls for Norfolk Constabulary to reverse its decision on charity cavalcade11.07.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 15th Jul 2009
In a meeting with the Norfolk Chief Constable, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Norwich North April Pond, today called on Norfolk Constabulary to reconsider its decision to prevent a charity cavalcade of motorcycles moving from Norwich to Lowestoft on July 26th Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Norwich North, April Pond said: "After a lot of planning by volunteers, I'm immensely upset that the cavalcade must be cancelled because the licence required for road closures cannot be obtained in time. The only advice the police have offered cannot be implemented within the time available." "This places the organisers in an impossible position. The event has been enjoyed by a great number of participants and spectators, raising £45,000 for charity over the past eight years alone." "It is a shame that because of ever increasing rules on holding events, this charity fundraiser cannot now take place. It is also a real pity that no one was able to alert the organisers that they would need an additional licence and although I discussed this in depth with the chief constable, it is clear that they cannot break the law."
