Update! Latest on the Newmarket Road cycle/bus lane campaignPublished on Thu 20th Mar 2008
Labour and Conservative support for HGVs using Cycle Lanes. Dear Editor, I agree wholeheartedly with Matthew Williams of the Norwich Cycling Campaign (EDP 15/2) when he says that 'to allow some HGVs to use bus/cycle lanes must rank as one of the more brainless decisions'. However when he says it came out of County Hall I must point out that the City Council in the form of Labour City Councillor Brian Morrey, Executive Member for Sustainability also voted for the scheme. The Labour City Council along with the Conservative County together think this is an acceptable way forward to promote sustainable transport. Anyone wanting to protest at this 6 month experimental scheme should get in touch with me (tel. 504126) to sign a petition or lobby the City or County Councils. The next meeting of the Joint highways Committee is on 13th March when I will present the petition and ask for a rethink. Yours sincerely Liberal Democrat City Councillor Judith Lubbock
